little by little

Now that spring is here in full force, we both have renewed energy to amp up our sustainability efforts.  Although Kevin’s been recovering from a series of injuries after a bicycle accident, we’ve managed to maintain our balcony garden, among other projects.  For the past week, we’ve kept our garden watered using only grey water.  We’ve taken to using a large bucket as we start our showers, and then using that water for the garden.  We’re also watering our houseplants with water from the dehumidifier.  This past week, we got produce from the farmer’s market…

…planted new tomato plants and pepper plants…

…hung our clothes up to dry…

…aired out the compost…

…and spent time in our lovely garden.

at home on Sunday

We started off the day slowly, enjoying each other’s company, eating our favorite breakfast of yogurt and chocolate chips, going for a run, and taking care of the house and plants.  In the late afternoon, we got around to doing some work—Kevin on taxes, and me finishing up a custom quilt for a friend.  We took a break in the early evening, and Kevin cut my hair.  It feels so good to have hair off my neck again! Then, I started making dinner, and got to use our first garlic tubers from our very own balcony garden.  It was wonderful to be able to dig them carefully out of the ground, clean and peel them, and then add them to the other curry paste ingredients.  I love finishing the day with a homemade meal with ingredients from the garden.
